Jason Owen

Jason is a specialist in Special Educational Needs and an advocate for inclusion, recognising how sport can change perceptions of disability, both hidden disabilities and physical disabilities. He has delivered training to educational establishments and spoken at the National Education Show. He was awarded the Times Educational Supplement 2009 national award for a sports project which benefited young people at breaks and lunchtimes in schools nationwide.

Jason is also head coach of the England wheelchair rugby 7’s team – he has played for England in internationals in France and in Italy plus many home internationals, demonstrated the sport during the National Paralympic Day at Queen Elizabeth II Park, at the rugby union World Cup, at Wembley stadium and at the World Alternative Games; and introduced the sport to over 4000 young people in recent years. Rugby has two codes and Jason has also regularly played wheelchair rugby league for Wales as well as winning the national club trophy three consecutive years. Jason was also instrumental as one of the two people who set up the first official version of wheelchair American football in the UK.

He has sports coaching qualifications in well over a dozen different sports from table tennis to gymnastics, football to tennis, wheelchair sports to swimming.

Outside of sport and education, he has written numerous books under a pseudonym, has now been a trustee of the charity Kasbah for several years; and almost 35 years ago, he played football for United (Hereford, not Manchester).
